Everything Is Possible

Last week, the BBC showed a program called “Stargazing LIVE” (check YouTube for a funny video of one of the presenters talking about not being able to see anything because of cloud while a meteor streaked across the sky behind him! Lol – and check out their comments afterwards too). Anyway, not only did this program bring out my inner geek, it also opened my mind to the vastness of the universe. I knew it before, of course, but when a scientist starts talking about a galaxy of a trillion suns 2.4 million light years away suddenly it becomes more immediate and ‘real’.

Can you imagine what a galaxy of a trillion suns 2.4 million light years away contains? No? Me neither. It would be immensely arrogant of us to suppose we have any clue what this galaxy could contain. The universe is so vast that everything is possible, all sorts of seemingly unlikely and improbable things will exist. In universal terms, our current level of knowledge is pretty primitive. Bringing it back to earth, this program reminds me of how little we really know about how life works!

Every day there are new discoveries, every day a new possibility opens up, every day a curious scientist discovers something that he doesn’t yet understand! So imagine if there are endless possibilities and opportunities for you. Imagine if in this vast universe, containing entire galaxies we know nothing about, you are capable of more than you ever imagined. Imagine if all the things in your life that you desire are possible for you. Open your mind to the possibilities of life – look up at the stars and imagine…the impossible could one day be the ordinary!

A belated Happy New Year to you Donna.
Like you I enjoyed watching the stargazing programmes, not usually my scene, but I thought I’d give it a try.
It was a reminder of the beautiful universe of which we are a part, and to stop and look around more often. Won’t buy a telescope just yet though.
Thank you as usual for insightful comments.
    Angela x

Absolutely – the world was most definitely flat, all the healing we take for granted now was impossible…imagine what they’ll be saying about our beliefs in 2011 in 100 years time?! It’s exciting! And may I congratulate you on the word-play – that made me laugh! x

I love this, Donna! You’re so right about the endless possibility in our universe. I like to read stories about the past, about how people said this or that was impossible–like cars and airplanes and telephones–things we take for granted today. It reminds me of the wonders to come, and that all the things I think are out of reach right now are just around the corner. Thanks for the stellar 😉 reminder to keep my sights on the possibility!
