Is 2018 on course?

Half the year is gone already…can you believe it?! Yeah, sorry to remind you. Don’t worry, I’m not going to ask you to do a half-year appraisal. I thought about it though (and if you do, make it a self-loving one that looks at what you have done right and enjoyed and been on track with), but then I thought it would be more useful to see if 2018 needs a course correct?

Did you make any goals, plans or New Year’s Resolutions for this year? What did you want to create this year? This is not to give you an excuse for self-flagellation, I’m just askin’. If you did, how’s it going? Again, no need to beat yourself up, it’s merely curiosity. If you didn’t, that’s cool too. Is this year going the way you hoped?

If the answers are along the lines of: ‘oh yeah, I forgot about that’, ‘shit, I’ve done nothing on that goal’, ‘nope, same shit, different day’ or ‘hmm…no’, maybe it’s time for a little course-correction?

You probably don’t need a wild course correction, even if everything’s going to pot. It’s tempting to try to turn sharply when we realise we’re on the wrong path. But that’s a lot of effort and harder to sustain than simply turning slightly more towards what you want. Let it be easy to make life a little better.

And you can make ‘what you want’ easier too. If you really want to dig for your deepest desires, go for it. Otherwise, simply head for enjoying life more. Taking it easier. Having more fun. Lightening up. Laughing more.

I’ve just done a mini-evaluation of 2018 (took about 3 minutes on it), and I’m giving myself a ‘C’ (I’m old-school) – kinda average, ok, could do better. Some really good stuff’s happened…and I’ve let a few good-for-me practices slide.

One practice for me that seems to help everything come together is meditation. When I meditate, I’m less stressed, less reactive, less worried, more connected, more intuitive, more inspired. So that’s the practice I’m (re)committing to for the 2nd half of 2018. Reckon I can finish the year on an ‘A’ if I can get back into my meditation practice.

So, where are you at with 2018? On course, wildly off-course, or ‘could do better’. Please, be kind and loving to yourself while looking at this. You don’t exist to achieve and ‘do’ and tick things off a to do list…but you can if you want!

Wherever you feel you’re at this year, whether it’s a top score or a big fat fail, choose a nice easy practice that will help you make the 2nd half of the year better (as in more fun, more ease, more joy).

And if you’re not sure what practices might help, come join the Fall in Love with Life group – we have a different daily practice every month to help us make life better – coming up over the next couple of months are having more energy and experiencing more joy.

So many of us live life by default…and our lives are so busy and full that we often look back and wonder where the years go! But take a moment now just to see if life’s heading in the right direction for you…and if not, give it a little course correction to get back on track to loving life.
