Menu of helpful things for anxiety and catastrophising

When I’m not well, or in turbulent times, I get anxious.

When I’m tired, or in turbulent times, I catastrophise.

Right now, I’m noticing a spike in my anxiety and catastrophising (wonder why???).

But it’s all good because I have ways I deal with the eeks and omg’s and what if’s.

Here’s my menu of helpful things for anxiety and catastrophising:

Ask for help

Ask my divine team (usually guardian angels, but any divine being is welcome!!) for help.

Breathe

Breathe. Most important. Consciously, deeply and with the intention to calm my nervous system.

Write.

I do the morning pages each day and it helps to write out some of the batshit thoughts. Yesterday after writing about some catastrophising, I wrote this:

“IF all of that happens (and some of it is unlikely), I’ll deal with it. And IF all of that happens, it’s months away yet. And IF all of that happens, I have an idea or two what I can do. So right now, there’s no need to worry.” It’s helpful to process and get to a clear headed place if you can.

Come back to this moment.

In this moment, I have oxygen and supplies. In this moment all is well.

Tomorrow will bring what it will bring. There’s such a temptation I’ve noticed to predict what this will all mean (and I’ve heard about 2% good predictions and the rest not so good!).

But the truth is that we don’t know what will happen, and nor do the talking heads dominating the news programs.

For all that they sound authoratative, they are guessing. It may be educated and wise guesses.

Or it might (as it has so often been in the past) be way too pessimistic! Think of them as Mystic Megs trying to see into the future, and keep yourself in this moment.

Use my imagination positively

Spend AT LEAST as much time imagining everything working out perfectly as I do imagining worst case scenarios.

Look for the good and the blessings.

They’re always there. The community spirit locally has been heartening, and I’ve been more in touch with friends than ever before.

Clear the energy.

As an empath, this anxiety and catastrophising is not all mine. So the energy needs clearing with a light shower, an angel hug (or angel hosing down!) or some nature energy to blow it through to get rid of any icks that aren’t your own (as well as letting your own icks go).

Dance.

Any movement will do to be honest, just move the sticky icky vibes.

Sing.

Belting out a tune last night (tunelessly) made me feel so much better about life and released a lot of the tension I’d been holding onto.

Share.

Talking to friends helps to calm the anxiety (unless they’re worse catastrophisers than you!) We’re all in this boat. It’s an uncertain time. We all feel it, whether it shows up as fear, anger, irritation, lethargy.

Limit your exposure to ‘news’.

By all means keep up with the situation, but don’t spend all day watching news programs or scrolling on social media. The days I’ve managed to do this, I’ve been WAY less anxious and stressed.

Laugh.

In uncertain times we can all get a bit serious. Laughter is excellent for our immune system, our lungs, our mental, emotional and spiritual health.

I hope one of these ideas helps you if you’re feeling the seasickness on these choppy waters, and I’d love to hear how you’re keeping yourself sane!

And if you are finding it hard to keep your equilibrium (or being driven insane by all the antics) and you want some help on staying sane in insane times – I’m offering a free coaching session. No sales pitch, no obligation, just a chance for you to get some coaching so you can keep enjoying life as much as possible under very trying circumstances!

If you’d like to give this a go (and everyone is welcome, yes, even you!), simply contact me with “Free coaching session please, but let’s not mention the C word” or something similar and we’ll get you booked in.

Big love, stay safe. I love you.
