Oh Lord, It’s Hard To Be Humble…

I woke up the other day with this song flying around my head – for about the first hour of the day I found myself singing

‘oh lord, it’s hard to be humble…when you’re perfect in every way…’

Most peculiar as I NEVER listen to this song. I don’t own it, I haven’t heard it on the radio for YEARS, and yet there it was

“I can’t wait to look in the mirror cos I get better looking each day”

I pondered for a while what it could mean. You may have heard of the theory that lyrics that get stuck in your head have a message for you…well, I get weird songs stuck in my head all the time so I don’t often subscribe to that theory, BUT, then it hit me.

To know me is to love me, well I must be one hell of a man

No, not that I am one hell of a man, but that the theme song most of us sing is the exact opposite of this.

oh Lord, what have I done now? Can I not get ANYTHING right?
Oh great, I’m looking in the mirror at a new wrinkle, I look older, fatter, worse than yesterday
To know me is to know that I am a bundle of insecurities, fears and flaws

And so the ‘song’ goes on. Constantly chipping away at our self-esteem, undermining us, making us feel bad about ourselves. Well, do you know what? I’ve had enough of it! You? You see you?

 You are beautiful
You have a smile that lights up the world
You are so gifted in so many ways
When you do what you are supposed to be doing in this world, you light up
When you light up, the world around you lights up
And this world needs you to see how utterly magnificent you are
This world needs you to do the work you’re here to do
This world needs you to do what brings you joy and lights you up
This world needs you to see that your inner light shines brighter every day
That you get better looking each day
That you become a better person every day
That you, YOU, are special and brilliant and fabulous
And you are a hell of a woman (or man)

Sing a new song to yourself every day. Sing a song that reminds you of your magnificence, not your flaws. Because your flaws are just a small part of the magnificence that is you – perfect in every way! It’s time to throw some of that humility out of the window, stand in your power and claim your utter magnificence. Now.

Just in case you don’t know the song, here’s a version with the muppets…

Now you’ll have it stuck in your head too…sorry!

Love

I think I might have to write that song! “I am a witch, I am free and wild and beautiful, and my one unconditional commitment is to life…!” :-)))

Wow, how timely! I’m changing my own tune these days, and embracing the sacred in everything I do.

What a change from the normal, not-nearly-so-positive self-talk!

Thank you so much for this!

    Love and light,
    Sue

YES! I too need a new song! It’s weird how I’ve been aware of this, but sometimes it hits home in a particularly intense way, and your blog entry did that. Thank you <3
