Fall In Love With Life Glossary

So, when I was putting the finishing touches to my book, I realised that there are some British-isms in there, some Brummie-isms, and basically some words and phrases that the world at large may not understand at all. It felt like a step too far to put a glossary in the book, but I thought I’d create a blog post to explain some of the ones I suspect people might struggle with!

“Bat Crap Crazy” – this phrase originated from the phrase ‘bats in the belfry’ – ie the bats have been there so long, they’ve crapped all over the place. (It means, really, really crazy)

“Face like a spanked arse”- if you imagine that a smacked bum had a face, it would look unhappy, right? That’s what this one means.

“pissy and narky” – grouchy, irritable, cantankerous.

“to not give a shit” – to not care in the slightest.

“dickhead” – I love that the Oxford Dictionary online has a definition of this – a stupid, irritating or ridiculous man.

“mithering” (pronounced ‘my-thering’) – to worry or be bothered by something.

That’s all for now. If you’ve read the book and there’s a word or phrase you don’t understand that I haven’t explained here, leave a comment below and I’ll add it in!

Love
