I’ve been having a little clutter clearout today. Just a little one. There was a time when I would wait until the clutter got on my nerves badly (and I had PMT) and basically throw everything I owned away then start rebuilding the clutter again. These days, I try to have a more consistent approach and clear clutter as I’m going along. So this morning the clutter I cleared wasn’t all the stuff on my desk (planning to tackle that this afternoon), but a few of the bits cluttering up my inbox and my facebook page.
Technology has given us new places to be cluttered and overwhelmed with ‘stuff’. In your e-mail and social networks, it’s not physical clutter…but it’s clutter nonetheless. E-mail subscriptions you never read, facebook ‘friends’ you barely know and whose updates bring you down. You don’t have to wait until it gets overwhelming and have a mad clearout, just notice on a daily basis the things that you could drop, delete, unfriend, throw out, recycle, give away or sell. Whether physical clutter or in cyber-space – if it’s not adding something good to your life, get rid of it.
Piece by piece you can clear out the things that are weighing you down, and start to live light.
