I’ve had 4 migraines in 3 weeks. Plus a stung foot that led to all sorts of fun with antihistamine, itching, swelling, and ended up with me worshipping the mighty Aloe Vera plant.
So it got me thinking:
What is your body telling you right now?
And are you listening?
My body was telling me to slow down.
Again.
It gives me this message a lot.
I don’t always pay attention the first (or second, or third) time.
It was also telling me to prioritise self-care and self-love, to practice what I preach (I’ve been talking about these things in the Fall in Love With Life group).
But your body isn’t only telling you what to do in this moment, it’s nudging you to make things better in the future too.
With a cluster (a flock? A flotilla?) of migraines, my body was telling me to find solutions.
Like the sting on my foot led me (via many creams, tablets, ice, vinegar, essential oils) to the magic of the mighty Aloe Vera plant.
So far, this collection of migraine has led me to the relief of a cool bandana, the relaxation and pain-easing power of a guided meditation and the wizardry of a self-massage technique for migraine (which, incredibly has worked where all else has failed).
OK, I’d rather just not need any of those darn things.
But I know in the future I’ll be very grateful I have them in my toolkit.
When I suffered migraine in the past, it led me to acupuncture, which had been great for my overall health.
But all my health issues (mental and physical) have led me to solutions – some short term, some long term.
MS for example, led me to understand self-care, listening to my body, the impact of burning the candle at both ends, the impact of stress, the impact of alcohol on my life.
Listening to your body doesn’t just bear fruit in the moment, bringing you relief in that moment, it can also lead you to things that make your life better forevermore.
So, what’s your body saying to you today?
And are you listening?
