I’m curious…do you set goals from year to year? Do you do resolutions? Tell me, I’d love to know how you decide what to focus on each year. (Or if you just ride the river of life with no plan.)
Maybe you have already decided on your focus for this year? Maybe you have already broken your New Year’s Resolutions? Maybe you intended to have a think but then got distracted by life?
It happens – last year I didn’t set a vision for the year because I got flu on 1st January and then I was on holiday and then I was busy and then it was April and it seemed pointless to do it then!! (Not so by the way, but sometimes that’s how you feel…and last year I really wasn’t feeling a new vision for my life.)
This year I am feeling like there is something waiting to be visioned. I have given it some thought. I’m still going through my process for setting myself up for the New Year. I take my time over it…because I know that if I make a snap goal or intention or pick a word out of the ether, I’ll forget about it by February.
But if I take my time, if I mull and ponder and consider and dream and cogitate, if I consult with my heart and soul, I’ll come up with something that resonates deeply for me – and therefore be more likely to see it through to at least the summer!
The great thing about knowing (even vaguely) the direction you want to go in this year is that you can then do something to head in that general direction.
I’m not sure what exactly it’ll be this year, but I do know my current ruminations are taking me to things like space and time, connection and inspiration, creativity and ease.
So I already know that this means clearing the decks. Literally clearing out my desk (on which I found some paperwork from 2 years ago this week!!!), clearing out my e-mail, finishing a few lingering small projects, deciding to ditch other lingering ideas.
I also know that clearing the decks means cutting my to do list down even more. Last year I did this a bit – I started a daily list instead of a huge weekly list. But now what’s calling to be done is 3 things a day.
Just 3 things. Honestly, I’m sure I’ll have more to say about this as time goes by. But I know that if I want simplicity, calm, ease, space, creativity, I have to break this cycle of busyness that I’ve been trapping myself in for years.
So although the full clarity of my vision for this year is still waiting to come through, I’m already able to implement some practices and actions that will help me to go in that general direction.
So what are you focusing on this year? And what actions and practices are you implementing?
You could be focusing on joy and deciding to do one thing that brings you joy every day.
You could be focusing on feeling good in your body and deciding to do daily compliments of yourself, or daily yoga, or daily dancing.
You could be focusing on following your heart’s desires and deciding to check in with your heart every day.
You could be focusing on following your intuition and deciding to do practices that help you hone and hear your intuition.
You could be focusing on completing or starting a project and deciding to do 20 minutes every day that you can on that project. (That’ll be over 100 hours by the end of the year…just saying.)
Whatever you’ve decided to focus on, I wish you joy and love and laughter and heart’s desires and soul-singing wonderfulness for the year ahead.
And if you need some help in deciding what to focus on this year, not only can you get my process here, but don’t forget you can get a free coaching session with me any time. (Yes, even if you’ve had one before – this is a New Year, right?!) This is literally one of my favourite things to talk about and it would be my pleasure to help you narrow down your focus for the year.
