Follow the Energy

I was on a group call last night with the fabulous Joel Young about NPA – a lovely method for freeing and allowing energy.  Joel was talking about following the animation – the things that have energy.  You know how your energy changes and goes down when you are, say, moaning about the weather?  And how it changes and goes up when you are talking about something you love to do – like holidays, gigs, nights out with friends etc.  Well that positive animation is what we’re talking about.

Joel likened it to surfing a wave – following that energy.  When we are trying to ‘make’ ourselves do something…we are trying to surf on a millpond!  That’s why sometimes it is so difficult to get something done…and on another day, you will fly through the same task.  So where is the animation for you today?  Where is the energy?  What are you interested in and engaged by?  Not what you ‘should’ be doing, but where the energy is building with a wave ready for you to surf.

If this is something you are not used to doing, it might sound a little hard…but it just takes a bit of practice.  So start to notice – where is the animation?  Where is the interest?  What has a a wave of energy?  Go do that – follow the energy and see where it takes you.  I have found that following the energy makes life 1000 times easier.  When I am trying to make the energy flow, life is harder, stuff takes longer, I am constantly getting stuck and it feels bad.

Take writing a blog post for example, if I try to write when there is no energy to write, I could sit at the laptop for a week without writing anything useful!  But today, now, the energy is flowing…and this has taken 10 minutes so far.  What a difference!  Now there are times when you’ve just got to do it, and at those times, you can build the energy – for example, to get my accounts done, I put on some loud music and raise my energy so I can ‘get it done’.

But it’s becoming rare that I will try to force myself to go where the energy is not these days.  And when I do, I remember it is a very inefficient way of living!  Tap into that energy of life that is all around you and just watch your life get easier as you ride that wave.

Love

Love this Ande – I love that your body gives you REALLY unsubtle hints “HEY! My eyes are CLOSING here!!!!” Fabulous.

And it just made me laugh that we use logic to talk ourselves out of listening to the soul of the world talking.

This is SO true. I had the experience of it today. I’d studied a guide on creating traffic for a website, and it had all these tasks to do to get backlinks. One of them was to do this search for do follow blogs in your niche with page rank of 2 or better and make a list. I started to do this, and it was like someone stuck a needle in me and aspirated every bit of energy. I started thinking about chocolate (a sure sign that I’m not doing what I want), and I wanted a nap. I was totally enervated. I ignored this for about 20 minutes until my eyes were drooping, then I came to my senses. I stopped and used my chi machine and meditated, and then when I came back, I followed a whim to write a guest blog post. The post just flew out of me, and it was fun. I submitted it to the blog for which I intended it, and I don’t know what will come of it, but I could sure feel that wave of energy when I did it.

All we have to do is listen and when we hear the guidance, we need to follow it instead of saying, “Yeah but (fill in the blank with a logical argument).” 🙂

Hmm…just thought about this some more and the phrase that totally stuck in my head was “having the courage to follow” the energy. Ooooh, that’s juicy! x

That’s an excellent point Joel…that sounds like what I’ve really been doing…only fooling myself that I’m controlling the energy instead of the other way round. Lmao – I am a control freak! I love that distinction though – feels like that was ‘just outside the door’ for me, and something important for me to know and understand and be aware of right now. Thank you – you also ROCK!!!

    Hey Donna –

Well, LOL! I love that this took you just over 10 minutes, rather than a week! Yay You for following your True wave :0)

I personally wouldn’t put any energy IN to building the energy – the energy is always THERE, it’s just a case of noticing where it REALLY is, and then having the courage to follow it! And that might, like you say, look like “Phew, accounts to do and feels like dirge! What’s really here? I just wanna dance… to… ABBA!…” and so ABBA goes on, the hair dryer comes out, the cats leave the building and you feel great! And when it’s done, perhaps what’s really here is… accounts time – and somehow that just flows!… And it may look very different. Hence the question – what’s REALLY here – and authentic honesty with yourself is the best policy on that one!

Ha! Looks like my wave was in the comment for me – and now it’s done!

Much Love Donna – you rock!
